Research In Motion (RIM) recently announced their tablet offering — the BlackBerry Playbook. Their positioning the device as the professional’s tablet computer. What’s amazing with this tablet is that it’s going to run on a dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM. That packs quite a punch compared to Apple’s iPad. The BlackBerry Playbook will also run Adobe Flash and AIR, something that’s still missing with the iPad. Here’s the video promo:
Giant Camera?
Like the Samsung Galaxy, the BlackBerry Playbook will also have two cameras. This will allow for mobile video conferencing. It might be weird though to actually use the device as a digital camera because of it’s sheer size, haha. x.x
Potentially Good Gaming Device
Another interesting feature is that the Playbook supports OpenGL. This technology will allow the device to carry insane-graphic games. I’m definitely looking forward to what developers will be coming up with for this new gadget!
Syncs with your BB Phone!
The Playbook will also sync with your phone which means that e-mail, BBM, calendars, etc. will be a seamless experience.
The biggest challenge I’m seeing fro the Playbook is if it will get the same level of support from developers. The iPad is a great device mainly because of all the apps the developers have been making for it. If RIM makes the environment for developers enticing, I’m sure this will be able to get decent market share from the tablet industry.
No price yet. It should be available in Europe first half of 2011 and the rest of the world soon after.

Great update. I talked to my Account Manager in Smart Comm and she reckons that it will be one of their ‘freebies’ (depends on your plan, of course). The BB Playbook looks impressive in both paper and videos. I can’t wait to get my hands on one!
