With the popularity of BlackBerry smartphones in the Philippines it was only natural for more shops to start selling accessories. For the longest time I’ve been looking for charging docks and it was nice to finally find the original BlackBerry 9700/9780 charging dock in Greenhills (Theater Mall). You just place the phone on it, plug the charger to the power outlet, and connect it with the dock. It’s sold for Php1,650 and there are only limited stocks available.

Editor’s Note: This article is written by Colin Chan. He’s an avid BlackBerry fan and is a heavy user of his BlackBerry Bold 9700. We thought that it would be perfect for Colin to write this review. :)

Thanks to the guys at Otterbox and New Media PH for letting me get a hold of one of the premier hard cases for the BlackBerry Bold 9700. It’s called the Otterbox Defender and the name does give justice.

The Defender is made of 3 parts. The hard case, a silicon wrap-around pad and the belt clip. These 3 protective layers combined gives your phone epic protection against most forms of damages and scratches. Most of the time phones get dented and scratched because of drops — but that’s something your phone will withstand with the Defender on. The proof? I dropped my phone 3 times. More after the jump. BlackBerry Bold 9700 will get BlackBerry OS 6

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is probably one of the most popular BlackBerry handsets in the Philippines. I’ve been getting a lot of questions if people would need to upgrade to the Torch or the new Bold 9780. However it looks like there won’t be a pressing need to do so. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 will also get the highly anticipated BlackBerry OS 6 which brings several cool features like Universal Search and Social Feeds. The Touch Screen of the Torch might be awesome for browsing but I remember using the keypad more than the Touch Screen when I was using the Torch review unit for a week. The 9780, on the other hand, will just have better memory and camera compared to the Bold 9700.

I’ll try to get in touch with the local PR of RIM to see if there’s a scheduled date for the OS 6 update for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and I’ll post their response here as soon as I get it.

The Otterbox Defender Series for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is the older and tougher brother of the Otterbox Commuter Series. It’s definitely bulkier but it promises better protection and security for your handsets. Here are some of the unboxing photos we took.

Otterbox Commuter Case for BlackBerry Bold 9700 Review

The Otterbox Commuter Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 offers good security without sacrificing the size or weight of the device (which is the complaint of a lot of people with the Otterbox Defender series). With this case on your BlackBerry Bold 9700 will have decent protection against mid-level drops and scratches. If you want ultimate protection though the best choice would be the Defender series and we’ll review that this week.
