[Video] BlackBerry Bold 9790 and Curve 9380 Launch in Jakarta, Indonesia

We were invited by RIM to cover the launch of their two newest smartphones: The BlackBerry Bold 9790 and the BlackBerry Curve 9380. The launch event was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. This was a special occasion since this was the first time RIM was doing a global product launch in Asia. Definitely have to give them props for recognizing the importance of the market here.

Here’s a short video we put together which shows what happened during the launch. No less than RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsllie was present to unveil both phones!

Our sister site, Unbox, already has a review for the BlackBerry Bold 9790. Click here to read it.

BlackBerry Curve 9300 for just P999?

The BlackBerry Curve 9300 doesn’t pack the power of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 but it’s a great entry level phone for people who want to get a feel of the BlackBerry experience. Globe is making it a whole lot easier for people to get into the BlackBerry craze with their latest promo. You can actually get a BlackBerry Curve 9300 for free under their P999 plan. The catch? The lock-up period which is usually 2 years will be extended to 3.

If you want to keep it to 24-months lock-up then you can shell out an additional P1600 cash. This promo will only last until February 15, 2011. Continue reading

BlackBerry Apollo and BlackBerry Dakota

The BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Bold product lines are also in for a refresh in 2011. These “leaked” photos of the BlackBerry Apollo (Curve) and the Dakota (Bold) surfaced online yesterday. Note that these are just code names and they’ll probably get assigned a number. Maybe the Dakota will be BlackBerry Bold 9790? Haha. Anyway, here’s a picture as well as the specs of the new Curve, the BlackBerry Apollo:

BlackBerry Curve 9300 Hands-on Review

(Editor’s Note: Since the BlackBerry Curve 9300 is meant to be the entry-level phone for RIM we lent it to one of our writers who has always been a solid Nokia user. The following is his comprehensive review after 1 week of using the Curve 3G.)

The Blackberry Curve 3G is an awesome experience in a pretty basic phone. It is RIM’s newest entry level Blackberry, so it only works to impress those who have not been “Berried”. After trying this out for a week I can now say that I have been “Berried”.
